911 Communication Centre

As the largest civilian Division with the Victoria Police Department, our 911 Communication Centre employs forty-six (46) staff in a variety of positions  including Dispatchers, Call Takers, Trainers, Switchboard Operators and Supervisors.

The Communication Centre is an operational division dealing with approximately 60,000 Calls for Service on an annual basis, with over 3,100 calls classified as the highest priority call dealing with life threatening situations.

Annually over 50,000 911 calls are received with each call being answered within an average of 5 seconds.

The Communication Centre strives towards continued education on the usage of 911 and the operations of the Centre.  We would be pleased to attend any of your meetings, conferences or workshops to speak on these topics.  Arrangement can be made by calling 250-995-7691.

We take pride in having a thirteen (13) year average of service time from our employees working with both the Victoria and Esquimalt Communication Centers.

Individuals hired to work in our Communication Centre must have completed the Public Safety Communication program or have previous experience in a Police Communications Centre.  You must have the ability to type a minimum of 60 words per minute and successfully pass an exam that challenges your typing, spelling, and multi tasking abilities.  A full enhanced security clearance which includes a polygraph examination is part of the recruiting process.
