Destruction of Fingerprints

If you were arrested, fingerprinted and charged with an offence by the Victoria Police Department, that resulted in a non-conviction finding in court, you may be eligible for a destruction of your fingerprints and photograph.

Each request is reviewed on a case by case basis and destruction requests may be denied in some cases. Municipal police agencies are not required to destroy identification documents.

If approved this does not guarantee that all information compiled as a result of the investigation will be removed from the databases. Additionally the results of all court proceedings will remain in the provincial court systems.

Complete the attached form, include photocopies of two pieces of identification and forward to:

Upon receipt of your request we will send you a confirmation letter advising that a review has been initiated.

When the review is complete and, if approved, the RCMP in Ottawa have returned your fingerprints to us, we will send you another letter advising of our decision.

Please be aware that this process can take as long as 9 months.
