Volunteer Police Record Checks

The Victoria Police Department conducts Criminal Record Checks for residents of the City of Victoria and Esquimalt only. Non-residents should apply to their local police agency. Link to local police agencies

Police Record Checks for volunteer positions are conducted for no charge if you provide a letter (on letterhead) from the volunteer agency that clearly states this is an unpaid position and the type of position you will hold.

These applications are accepted at:

Victoria Police Headquarters at 850 Caledonia Avenue
7:00 am to 8:00pm seven days/week
OR

Victoria Police West Division Office located in Esquimalt at 500 Park Place.
Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm

Normal processing time is approximately10-14 business days – there can be longer waits depending on individual circumstances. You will be notified by phone when your check is available to pickup. Due to Canadian Police Information Centre policy we can release the completed record check to the applicant only.

Identification must be presented to complete the Criminal Record search. We require two pieces of government issued identification - at least one photo identification and one secondary identification that are included in the following list:

Photo Secondary
Driver's license (any province)
BC ID (or other province ID)
Passport (any country)
Citizenship Card
Military ID Card
Status Card
Birth Certificate
Social Insurance
Health Care Card

**Please note – Police Record checks cannot be completed without valid photo ID**

If it appears the applicant may have a criminal record, the applicant may have to have this verified through the submission of fingerprints.
