Victoria BC – A 39 year old Esquimalt resident is facing numerous charges after breaking into Action Motorcycles located at 1234 Esquimalt Road late Tuesday night.
By: Sgt. Grant Hamilton
Just after 11:30 p.m. several officers responded to the store after a witness reported that a suspicious male was hanging around the back of the business and shortly afterward heard the sound of breaking glass.
Cst. Sean Millard and Police Service Dog Jax quickly arrived to find the front door window smashed out. Since several other VicPD officers were already involved in the search for a missing person, the Military Police were contacted and requested to assist in containing the building and the surrounding area.
The police dog searched the interior and located the suspect who began fighting with the dog. Cst. Millard and two Military Police officers wrestled the man into custody who was also found to be in possession of two knives.
Once back at the police station the suspect was increasingly violent and threatened to kill himself and began throwing items around the interview room.
The man was issued a Promise to Appear and then transported to hospital for a mental health assessment.
The man was released from hospital yesterday morning and promptly smashed out a window nearby. He was then re-arrested by VicPD members and held for court.
Bernard Douglas SCHUMAN has almost 50 criminal convictions, 32 of which are for break and enter and theft and he was recently released from jail. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court this afternoon.
