Chief Manak Presents 2018 VicPD 2018 Provisional Budget To joint Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board and Victoria and Esquimalt Councils session

Today, Chief Manak presented the 2018 VicPD 2018 Provisional Budget to a joint session of the Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board as well as the Victoria and Esquimalt Councils.

The 2018 provisional budget includes an increase to the core budget of $1,321,942 or 2.52%. It also includes $253,898 for the 2nd of a 2 year pilot to expand Mental Health Integration through the (Assertive Community Treatment) ACT team.

Temporary Cameras Deployed During GoodLife Marathon

Victoria,  BC - As with previous events, we will be deploying temporary cameras in support of our operations to ensure public safety at the GoodLife marathon.

We’ll be deploying these temporarily placed, monitored cameras in public spaces & in line with BC & national privacy legislation.

We’re looking forward to a safe, family-friendly & fun race day. That’s why we’re using temporary cameras this year. 

Esquimalt Fire Department and Victoria Police Investigators Continue Fire Investigation

Victoria, BC – VicPD Investigators and the Esquimalt Fire Department are investigating a suspicious fire that occurred shortly after 10:00 a.m. yesterday in the 300 block of Uganda Avenue.  

The Esquimalt Fire Department were able to get the fire extinguished and noted that the fire was isolated to the garage of the residence.

Investigators have one man in custody associated to the residence and the investigation is ongoing.  It is believed that there is no risk to the public.

No further details will be released at this time. 

Update: Assault with a Weapon Investigation Continues

Victoria, BC –  Officers have one man in custody and are continuing their investigation into an assault with a weapon on October 3rd, that left a man with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers were called to the 800-block of Johnson Street shortly after 11:30 a.m. today after the report of an assault with a weapon. Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital where he remains.

Victoria, BC – Missing person Richelle Ojala has been located and officers would like to thank the public for their assistance. 

Original Release: 

Officers are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Richelle Ojala.

Richelle is described as a 20-year-old Caucasian woman standing five feet, five inches tall and weighing about 125 lbs.
