We Need You To Help Fight Fraud – March is Fraud Prevention Month

Victoria, BC - Frauds continue to have large impact on the citizens of Victoria and Esquimalt. March is Fraud Prevention Month, and the Victoria Police Department, alongside police departments, public service, commercial and government organizations across the country will be sharing information that can help fight frauds. We can’t do it alone, however. We need you to help us protect our communities. The best way you can help is by learning how you can protect yourself and those who love.

Update: William has been located and is with officers. Thank you for your assistance in locating him. 

 

Original: Officers are asking for your help in locating missing man William Kimmerly.

William is described as a 49 year-old Caucasian man, who stands five feet tall, nine inches tall and weighs 180 pounds (photo below). William has blue eyes and brown hair. Officers are concerned for his welfare.

Man Apprehended After Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team Activated

Victoria, BC – One man is in hospital after being apprehended under the Mental Health Act early this morning.  

Last night, shortly before 8:30 p.m. officers were called to the 1400-block of Brooke Street to check on the welfare of man. Upon arrival, patrol members attempted to start a conversation with a man which was not successful. Out of an abundance of caution, the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) was activated.

After a lengthy standoff, the man was safety apprehended just before 3:30 a.m.

Witnesses & Suspect Sought In Second Bus Stop Sexual Assault

Victoria, BC –  Officers are looking for witnesses and a suspect in a second bus stop sexual assault. While too early to confirm that this incident is related to a February 8th incident, police are asking people to be vigilant while at bus stops in the downtown area.

On February 11th, a woman attended VicPD to report a sexual assault that occurred on February 9th at 10:00 p.m. while at a bus stop in the 1700-block of Douglas Street.

Victoria, BC – On Saturday, February 4th, our latest class of Reserve Constables were sworn in by A/Chief Del Manak before family and friends.

Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board Co-Chair Mayor Lisa Helps welcomed the class of 16 to their new roles as volunteer uniformed representatives of the Department in the communities we serve. The 2017 VicPD Reserve Constable class included a member of the Central Saanich Police Service. VicPD often partners with other regional police agencies to enable training opportunities such as Reserve officer training.

Victoria, BC – In honour of our own history as part of Black History Month we proudly acknowledge the efforts of a small group of “Black Constables” that formed one of the first organized efforts to police Victoria. These brave men's efforts paved the way for our Department's foundation. A “Black Constable” uniformed in period recreation uniform from the summer of 1858 is on display at Victoria’s City Hall.
