Two Men In Hospital Following Pedestrian MVI

Victoria, BC - Two men are in hospital, one in potentially life-threatening condition after they were struck by a vehicle in the 1600-block of North Dairy Road, near the Shelbourne intersection just before 11 p.m. last night. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with our investigators.

VicPD's Traffic Section, including our collision reconstruction team were on scene investigating and the intersection remained closed for several hours.

We've had several media inquiries today about the Statistics Canada Canadian Centre for Justice Studies Crime Severity Index and Weighted Clearance Rate Data for 2015 and want to clear up any misunderstandings about these numbers. 

While the Crime Severity Index (CSI)  numbers indicate that crime in the Victoria Census Metropolitan Area is up 16% there are some important things about how the data is collected to know.

July 7th Report On Calls For Police Service: “Tent City” & Surrounding Area

As a result of continued public interest in calls for police service in and around the “Tent City” area, this report provides information on calls for police service by month and call type in the area of “Tent City.”

The “Tent City” area is defined using an approximate radius of three blocks, with the BC Courthouse greenspace at the centre. While this data reflects calls for service in the noted area, it does not necessarily mean that all of the calls are related to the “Tent City” encampment.
