Witnesses Sought After Two Suspicious Fires

Victoria, BC – Investigators are appealing for witnesses after two suspicious fires this morning.

Officers were called to the 600-block of Dunedin Street just after 3 a.m. this morning for a report of a large fire at a business there. When officers arrived, they discovered an active fire. Victoria Fire Department firefighters attended the scene to extinguish the blaze.

Victoria, BC – Saturday marks the final day of the Royal Family’s visit to Victoria. There are a series of events taking place in the James Bay and Downtown areas. As a result there will be road closures and traffic disruptions throughout the day, ending around 4 p.m.

There is no parking in the lower Wharf Street parking lot beginning at 1 a.m. until approximately 5 p.m.

Missing Man Christopher Sandham Located

Victoria, BC – VicPD Investigators are thanking the public for your help in locating missing man Christopher Sandham. 

Christopher was the subject of a missing person notification yesterday. Acting on a tip, officers were able to locate him and bring him to care. Thank you for your help in bringing a member of our community to safety.

UPDATE –VicPD investigators would like to speak to anyone who would have been in or around Highrock Park (Cairn Park) between 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. last night. Investigators are specifically looking for information on a white man, in his late 30s or early 40s years with close-cropped hair walking a dark coloured dog and a light coloured dog.

Witnesses Sought After Man Arrested In Dual Assaults

Victoria, BC – Investigators are looking to speak with witnesses after a Victoria man was arrested for two apparently random assaults.

Officers were called to the 1200-block of Langley Street just after 7 a.m. Sunday after two witnesses observed a man assault a second man. The victim was knocked to the ground, suffering life-threatening injuries. The suspect left the area. One of the two witnesses stayed with the victim, while the other followed the suspect from a distance.

A/Chief Manak “Arrested” For A Great Cause – Fighting Childhood Cancer

Victoria, BC – A/Chief Constable Del Manak was “taken into custody” today by VicPD’s Cst. Todd Mason and Cst. Cam Stephens as part of the Canadian Cancer Society’s “Jail & Bail” fundraiser.

Chief Manak joins several notable police, fire, community and political leaders from across Greater Victoria in the “hoosegow” a temporary jail set up on Ship Point in Victoria’s Inner Harbour. Each “prisoner” remains “in custody” until his or her “bail” is raised. A/Chief Constable Manak was already at 46% of his bail goal at 11 am this morning.
