Analysis and Intelligence Section Nabs Bank Robber

Victoria BC – VicPD’s Analysis and Intelligence Section (AIS) is being credited for identifying and, in an unusual turn of events, apprehending a bank robber.

Officers were called to a bank in the 700-block of Yates Street at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 17th for a report of a robbery.

Staff stated a man had come into the bank and demanded cash, claiming he had a gun. Staff gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash and he fled.

Wanted Suspect Runs, but Neighbours and Police Dog Track Him Down

Victoria BC – A wanted man is behind bars after neighbours and a VicPD K9 team tracked and arrested him after fleeing  from police who attempted to pull him over on Wednesday night.

A VicPD K9 officer was driving in the area of Catherine Street when he noticed an older-model black Chevrolet Cavalier speeding in the area. The officer attempted to pull the car over, but the driver refused to stop.

Civic Service Award for Man who Stopped Combative Thief

Victoria BC – Last night we recognized Ernie Caissie for assisting an off-duty VicPD sergeant with apprehending a combative thief.

On September 15th, an off-duty VicPD sergeant was at Mayfair Shopping Centre when he heard a male shouting, “Stop, thief!” and “He robbed me!”

The sergeant gave chase and called out for help from passersby.

Suddenly, Mr. Caissie appeared out of nowhere and was able to push the suspect off-balance, causing him to fall and scatter his ill-gotten gains over the floor.

Today We Welcomed our Two Newest Constables

Victoria BC – This morning, VicPD Chief Constable Frank Elsner swore in the two newest members of VicPD.

Aaron Mitic and Jillian Shields were officially sworn in by Chief Elsner in a ceremony at VicPD Headquarters.  They were welcomed by friends, family, colleagues and a representative from the Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board.

 “Times like these are what I cherish as a Chief,” said Chief Elsner. “Welcoming two such dedicated people into our family, to proudly serve Victoria and Esquimalt, is truly an honour.”

The following statement was issued by Chief Elsner during a press conference at 3 p.m. today.

Good Afternoon.

At approximately 11:00 a.m. this morning a number of our officers responded to a 911-call from a residence in the 200-block of Dallas Road.

Once on scene they were confronted by a man who was shot by our officers and as a result, succumbed to his injuries.

At this time, members of the Independent Investigations Office are en route to Victoria to take over the investigation.

Convicted Scammer on the Lam after Bilking Woman out of Thousands of Dollars

Victoria BC – Dallon Kyle Johnstone, a convicted fraudster, is wanted by VicPD and on the lam after bilking a local woman out of thousands of dollars.

After meeting a woman on an online dating site in July, the two began a short relationship, and within days, Johnstone had scammed thousands of dollars from the unsuspecting woman.
