Officers Out In Force Over New Year’s Eve Weekend To Combat Impaired Driving

Victoria, BC - If you’re planning on celebrating the New Year this weekend, be sure to plan for a safe ride home.

As they have been all through the holiday season, VicPD officers and volunteer reserve constables have been out conducting impaired driving enforcement. These efforts to keep our roads safe include roadblocks, patrol and responding to citizen reports of impaired driving.

Detectives Investigating after an Assault with a Weapon

Victoria, BC – Detectives are in the initial stages of an investigation into a serious assault with a weapon that occurred this afternoon.

 

At 2:45 p.m. officers were called to the 1600-block of Hillside Avenue for the report of a man suffering serious, but non-life threatening injuries.  Officers quickly arrived, located the victim and tended to his injuries. The victim was transported to hospital.

 

A New Approach to Combat Distracted Driving

Despite increased fines and penalty points, we've seen distracted driving increase to the point that it is now hurting and killing more people on our roads than impaired driving in some provinces. That is why the VicPD Traffic section has partnered with Restorative Justice Victoria, ICBC, RoadSafetyBC, and the Traffic Injury Research Foundation to deliver a distracted driving educational seminar that features Drop It And Drive™ Program Director Karen Bowman and Retired Surrey Fire Service Captain Tim Baillie.  

Help us Locate Stolen Guitar

Victoria, BC – Officers are asking for your help in locating a stolen guitar which has sentimental value to the owner.

On December 16th, it was reported to VicPD that a 'K Yairi' acoustic guitar, valued at $500-800, was stolen in the 400-block of Swift Street. The owner of the guitar reported that it was given to him by his grandfather roughly 16 years ago and holds sentimental value. 

Theft of Dog Investigation Continues

Victoria, BC – Now that Copper has been reunited with his owner, our investigation into who stole the dog continues.

A person of interested has been identified and investigators understand that there may have been some concern over the well-being of the dog at the time of the alleged theft.

Investigators are encouraging anybody with information to come forward to speak with us.

One Man in Custody after Altercation in Esquimalt

Victoria BC – Investigators are in the beginning stages of an investigation after an assault with a weapon in Esquimalt this afternoon.

Officers were called to the 500-block of Admirals Road for the report of an assault with a weapon shortly after 12:30 p.m. Officers quickly arrived and located a man suffering non-life threatening injuries. The man was transported up to hospital. The suspect was quickly located and arrested in the 600-block of Admirals Road.
