One Arrested After Reports Of Man With Firearm Lead To Johnson Street Bridge Closure

Victoria, BC – A Victoria man has been arrested and a replica firearm seized after an incident which lead to the closure of the Johnson Street Bridge.

Officers responded to a multi-unit residential building in the 500-block of Johnson Street just before 9 p.m. yesterday for call involving a man with a gun. Several people reported that a man had waved a handgun out a building window.

In order to contain the scene and protect the public officers closed down several nearby streets to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. This closure included the Johnson Street Bridge. They then entered the building and were able to take the man into custody a short time later. Officers also seized a replica firearm.

Officers are recommending charges of Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon. The man was released on a promise to appear.
