Monday, June 2, 2014Listen: Arson Suspect Taken Into Custody Near James Bay Community SchoolFile: 14-23085Date: Monday, June 02, 2014Victoria, BC – A man is in custody after being interrupted in an alleged arson attempt near James Bay Community School.A witness called police just before midnight last night and reported a man was spraying gasoline on the playground near the school. VicPD officers, including both patrol units and K9, arrived in the area and discovered what appeared to be an accelerant poured onto the woodchips.The K9 team was deployed and began to track a suspect when a man spotted the officers and began to flee. The man was taken into custody after a short foot chase.The suspect was briefly treated for injuries and then released back into police custody where he remains. The arson investigation is ongoing at this time.www.vicpd.ca
