Victoria, BC – One man is in custody after being arrested by Patrol officers for climbing onto the roof of the Bay Centre this morning.

Calls came into our 911 Communications Centre just before 8:30 a.m. reporting that a nude man climbing on the roof of the Bay Centre at 1150 Douglas Street. Our 911 Comms Centre contacted the Victoria Fire Department and the BC Ambulance Service for their assistance, while our officers were on their way.

When they arrived, our officers discovered the man had climbed out onto the roof, and was in conversation with an employee who was attempting to keep the man calm. Surrounding streets were closed to traffic as a precaution. Officers began to speak with the man, who agreed, after a short negotiation, to put his clothing back on and come down. He was brought to safety with the help of the Victoria Fire Department and transported to hospital for treatment.

Our investigation into this incident continues.
