VicPD and VIIMCU Looking for Further Information as Investigation of Sudden Death of Toddler Continues

Victoria BC – VicPD, the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate the sudden death of a 19-month-old toddler that occurred early Saturday morning.

Officers were initially called to a hotel in the 3100-block of Douglas Street at approximately 4 a.m. on Saturday morning for reports of a woman screaming. The room was quickly located and officers entered to find a distraught woman, a young child and a small toddler. The toddler had no vital signs and despite lengthy attempts at life-saving measures by police, fire, and ambulance, the child was pronounced dead on scene.

The continuing investigation has officers looking for witnesses to an event that occurred on Friday, July 17th.

VicPD Officers responded to a call for service at Clover Point, near Dallas Road, on Friday afternoon, from a citizen who was concerned about the loud praying and actions from an adult female who had a 3-year-old girl and the now deceased, 19-month-old child with her.

Officers talked to the woman, the children, and the caller. After speaking with everyone involved, officers liaised with outside agencies in the Capital Region.

Officers are now hoping to talk to any other witnesses of this event.
