Victoria, BC – A VicPD officer was treated in hospital Saturday night after sustaining injuries which occurred while investigating a reported domestic assault. The officer went to hospital after being kicked in the face while escorting a combative suspect into a police vehicle.
Officers were first called to the 800-block of Esquimalt Road just after 11 p.m. on Saturday for a report of an altercation between a man and a woman. Officers located the parties and began to speak to them. At that time, the man allegedly began to threaten officers and was then taken into custody for uttering threats.
The man became combative as officers attempted to load him into the back of the police van. It was at that point that the man is alleged to have lashed out, kicking one officer in the face. The male was restrained and transported to cells, where he is alleged to have continued to threaten the arresting officers and staff. The injured officer was then transported to hospital for treatment.
The suspect, a 40-year-old Esquimalt man, was released the following morning on a Promise to Appear.
