UPDATE: VicPD Looking for Suspect in Sexual Assault

Victoria BC – VicPD detectives continue to actively pursue the investigation into yesterday’s sexual assault that occurred early in the morning near Bay and Pleasant streets leaving a woman with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers were called to the area of Bay and Pleasant streets after a woman had reported being attacked by a man in the area as she was walking at approximately 5 a.m.

Interviews have now been completed and detectives believe that this was a “stranger-on-stranger” sexual assault.  There is no information at this time to suggest that the suspect and victim knew each other or had any communication prior to the attack, or that the attack is related to the sex trade.

Detectives currently have no suspects in this case, but persons of interest are being investigated.

Officers are requesting the public’s assistance with any information on this suspect or the event.  The suspect was described to officers as possibly a Caucasian man, between 30 to 40 years-old. He is between 5-foot-10 and 6-feet tall with a closely shaved head with grey hair. His clothing, at the time of the attack, was described as a black t-shirt and black pants.

While detectives are continuing to pursue this case they are asking women to be vigilant and to be aware of their surroundings. Wearing headphones or being distracted by cell phones may lead to a decrease of situational awareness.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to come forward and please contact the VicPD Detective tip line at 250-995-7444 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
