Police Information Checks

There are Two Types of Police Information Checks (PIC)

The Victoria Police Department ONLY process Vulnerable Sector Police Information Checks (PIC-VS) for the residents of the City of Victoria and the Township of Esquimalt.

1. Vulnerable Sector Police Information Checks (VS-PIC)

2. Regular (Non-Vulnerable) Police Information Checks, sometimes referred to as a Criminal Background Check

Do I need a Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check?


(a) is in a position of dependency on others; or


(b) is otherwise at a greater risk than the general population of being harmed by a person in a position of trust or authority towards them.


Fees


A letter from the volunteer agency must be provided as part of the online application process to ensure the fee is waived.

How to Apply

Only persons who will be in a position of trust involving vulnerable people require a Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check.

A Vulnerable People is defined by the Criminal Records Act as:
“a person who, because of [their] age, a disability or other circumstances, whether temporary or permanent,"

Vulnerable Sector Police Information checks can only be completed by a Police Agency. The processing fee for this service is $80.00. A credit card (Visa, Mastercard, and American Express) is required.

Some Vulnerable Sector Police Information Checks require fingerprinting. If fingerprinting is required you will be advised and asked to book an appointment. There is an additional charge of $25 for the service.

Volunteers: Waived

The easiest and most efficient method to receive your Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check is to use the online form and the completed document will be emailed to you in PDF format. We will not send it to a third party.
